Industry Leading Health and Safety
Jon Cornforth – Health and Safety Manager at Solaglas Windowcare – has
been appointed Chairman on the Glass and Glazing Federation’s (GGF)
Health and Safety Committee. The GGF is the UK trade association that
represents companies who make, supply or fit, glass and glass related
products.
Previously Jon held the position of vice-chair. He takes over from Graham
Bennett who has retired after many successful years service to the GLASS
Charter.
The GGF Health and Safety Committee works on behalf of the glazing industry
to produce best practice policies, lobby the Health and Safety Executive
(HSE) and improve health and safety levels across the board. The Committee
meets every three months and their priorities for 2011 include a review
of the existing working at heights and stillage documents, the introduction
of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) code of practice and industry
guidance on waste streams.
The GGF Health and Safety Committee represents in excess of 200 Member
companies and is the glazing industry voice on the GLASS Charter. It
is the primary interface with the HSE, Trade Unions, insurance companies
and all other stakeholders.
In his time with Solaglas Windowcare, Jon has made significant and sustainable
changes to the organisation and culture which have dramatically improved
the health, safety and wellbeing of employees across the business. He
actively participates in parent company Saint-Gobain’s working
groups with sister businesses such as Jewson, Graham and British Gypsum.
In addition, Jon is determined to improve industry standards and dedicates
time to helping trade associations, as per his new role at the GGF.
Jon comments: “It is an honour to be voted on as Chairman of the
Committee after serving as Vice-Chair since 2008. The Committee will
strive to continue the good work already started to achieve our ultimate
aim of improving health and safety for the whole glazing industry.”
Declan Moore, Health and Safety Manager at the GGF adds: ”We are
very lucky to have Jon take on this role as we need a people-person with
a real understanding of the health and safety issues faced every day
by GGF Members. Jon’s straight talking and down-to-earth approach
will be much appreciated by the rest of the Committee. I personally very
much look forward to working with Jon for the good of the glass industry.
Jon will be in post for a minimum of two years.
